Chatting with João Sousa

We interviewed João Sousa, one of the designers participating in the last edition of Portugal Fashion.

What is your assessment of this edition of Portugal Fashion?

Despite everything, this edition has virtually found a new public, the social networks and private messages of the brand on the day of the parade increased compared to previous editions of the event.

What was the great inspiration for this collection?

The great inspiration for this collection was the Australian coral reef, and the work of biologist Emma Camp, who is trying to recover the reef, of which more than half is dead. This desire, the colors, the shapes inspired me to create "Horizon".

What does this collection effectively want to "tell" the world?

This collection intends to demonstrate to the world a reality, which despite being informed by the media people tend to ignore. So this is an attempt to draw attention through fashion / art.

What is the reason for the choice of fabrics and colors used?

The materials I chose, namely cotton and linen represent the freshness of Australian lands, blue cotton refers to the ocean, white refers to the death of a coral, linen was dyed yellow, an allusion to the colors of corals and the summer sun, finally, black nappa refers us to a new approach to the lines of diving neoprene.

Do you consider that the pandemic had any impact on the creation of this collection?

Yes, the level of organization of this collection had to be rethought, the choices also had to be faster and more assertive so that in the end the result was the one you wanted.
