Troficolor Denim Makers is a Portuguese family business, founded in the middle of the last century, specifically on January 14th, 1956, and is proud to witness the turning of the millennium. It has always combined tradition and accumulated experience with constant innovation in its essence.

Its initial commercial objective was focused on the purchase and sale of fabrics, but it quickly created a fabric transformation unit, in the areas of printing, dyeing and finishing, as a consequence of the demand and market evolution. This is how, by the end of the 60’s, it began the relationship that would define it as Troficolor Denim Makers: the production of denim fabric. It started with only two references of this fabric, but in the mid-70’s its portfolio already had 10 references.

The rapid transformations in the world of fabrics have resulted in new trends and realities accompanied with constant updates. By creating synergies, such as the search for innovative products, their introduction on the market and the centralisation of the business force in the wholesale trade of fabrics, made it give up the industrial fabric processing in the year 2000.

Until 2016, the year of the celebration of its 60th anniversary, Troficolor's developed its activity in Trofa, but, driven by its growth and constant expansion, the company moved its facilities to Lousado. It thus began to concentrate its activity and resources in a large and historic space, located in the industrial heart of Vale do Ave, with strong and long connections to the textile and clothing sector. In this space, Troficolor Denim Makers concentrates the administrative services, the quality control laboratory, the posters/samples sector and the fabric warehouse. An interactive space has also been created where the design department presents garments with Troficolor’s fabric proposals as well as its finishes and washes.

Troficolor Denim Makers' business model consists of developing its own collections through its design department, based on international fashion trends. Recognizing the importance of international fairs as an essential tool for its global expansion, it was in 2008 that the company participated in its first international fair: TEXMAD, in Tunisia. Currently, its collections are presented on a biannual basis at the major international fairs held in the main European markets, the United States and Japan. Given the need to keep up with the evolution of digital trends, its collections are also available on a B2B online platform made available to its corporate clients.

Troficolor Denim Makers is a reference in the Denim market, with a strong focus on the sustainability of this industry. In this way, it has been expanding its range of sustainable items composed of organic, recycled and biodegradable fibres, having innovatively developed its Upcycling collection in 2019 – creative reuse of existing fabrics, avoiding waste and reducing the consumption of natural resources.

Social responsibility is also a priority in the list of Troficolor Denim Makers’ organizational values. Of particular note are the partnerships established with fashion schools and designers, in which the company supports its students in the acquisition of materials and the design of collections, in order to reduce the financial burden on the families of these students. Subsequently, they exhibit the collections in the company’s showroom, so that they are also part of their showcase, which is frequently visited by potential clients.

The internationalization of Troficolor Denim Makers has always been in its essence and, by the hand of its founder, its products were already present in Africa in the 70s of the last century. At the moment, about 90% of its production is destined for export, being present in more than 36 countries, namely Spain, France, Italy, Germany, England, Austria, Holland, Belgium, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Romania, Lithuania, Sweden, Norway, Turkey, Tunisia, Morocco, United States, Japan, Korea, among others, working with world reference brands, always in close collaboration with the design and purchasing departments.

Troficolor Denim Makers intends to continue to intensify its presence in the markets where it is already present and betting on an expansion process, being in negotiations with other markets such as: Canada, Australia, Dubai, Colombia and Brazil.

Aware of the differentiating importance of anticipating trends, the company invests in collaborations with the main national and international fashion schools, as well as in the relationships developed with internationally renowned designers along with the partnerships established with the most advanced laundries.
